Social Activities
Social Seniors
These days are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Each day is different to ensure we cater for all interests.
Activities range from trivia to musical entertainers, guest speakers to local pre-school children visiting for a bit of 'adopted grandparent' time.
Each day includes morning tea and a 2 course lunch, transport within Armidale can be arranged if needed
Senior Gents
Once a month on the first Tuesday of the month, this group of men meet for a catch up and organised activity.
Again, to cater to all interests, these activities vary from guest speakers to lunch out at a local venue and on occasion, a trip out for the day.
The men generally on meet for a couple of hours, from 10am - 12pm. On occasions they continue on for lunch at a local venue.
Transport can be arranged within Armidale.
Splinter Woodworking Group
Splinters is a well equipped workshop for those who enjoy tinkering with timber an tools.
Each person brings their own projects to work on rather than everyone completing the same project in a 'lesson' format.
All level of abilities are welcomed to Splinters and support can be given by our Supervisor, a retired cabinet maker, or by the Volunteers supporting the Supervisor.
Due to safety and risk management issues, this activity is not available to everyone.
Crafters & Knitters
Each Wednesday this group bring their personal projects to work on in a social group. There is lots of chatting, each person is willing to share their knowledge and skills onto others or just give a bit of help if you are caught in a pickle.
Some knit, other crotchet. We have a person who spins wool and others that embroider. There is even a couple of people who just enjoy sitting, chatting and admiring what others are doing!
This group have started a tradition of hand-making the ANZAC Day wreath the Armidale Care for Seniors Inc. lays each ANZAC Day service.
Cards and Game Players
Samba, RummiKub, Phase 10, Euchre and 500 seem to be the favorites among the card players, and the board gamers play a variety of games including Cleudo, Snakes and Ladders, Guess Who, Trivial Pursuit, Sequence and Uno. If you like to have fun, learn to play a new game or teach some other to play something new, then this is for you. The most important thing to remember with this group is that is is more about the fun and socialising than winning - it is in no way competitive or to be taken too seriously.
Some games require certain numbers to be able to play.
Day and Away Trips
Getting out of the house is vital to everyone's frame of mind, so why not go visit somewhere nice while you're on the go?
With the support of a Coordinator and our Volunteers you can continue to enjoy organised trips ranging from one day to five, visiting either local places of interest, destinations withing a couple of hours drive for our away trips, visit places within a day's drive.
All places we visit are booked with seniors in mind - so they are generally accessible to people with wheelie walkers.
Aside from souvenirs or a drink with lunch, all other costs are included in the client contribution cost.
